The Basics

Get Set for School | Handwriting Without Tears | Keyboarding Without Tears (GSS | HWT | KWT) is committed to providing high-quality, competitive health benefits for eligible employees and their families.

Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance starts the first day of the month following your start date.

MEDICAL: We offer three plan choices through the BlueCross BlueShield’s CareFirst program. Each plan includes medical and prescription benefits.

DENTAL COVERAGE: Dental insurance is offered through Cigna PPO. Preventative services are 100% covered if you use an in-network provider.

VISION COVERAGE: BlueVision, a vision discount program, is included when enrolled in any CareFirst medical plan. For additional vision coverage, employees may enroll in BlueVision Plus, which is 100% employee paid. Both are through CareFirst, using the Davis Vision, Inc. network of providers.

FLEXIBLE SPENDING (FSA) AND HEALTH SAVINGS (HSA) ACCOUNT: Employees may enroll in a flexible or health savings account to set aside pre-tax dollars to be used for dependent care (FSA only) or medical expenses, such as co-pays, lab fees, and any other eligible out-of-pocket medical expenses. To contribute to the HSA, you must be enrolled in the high deductible medical plan (CareFirst PPO).

The following protection insurance starts after 6 months of employment:

SHORT- AND LONG-TERM DISABILITY INSURANCE: Coverage is provided at no cost to employees to help cover lost wages in the event an employee is unable to work due to injury or illness.

LIFE AND ACCIDENTAL DEATH AND DISMEMBERMENT INSURANCE: Employees are enrolled in a life insurance plan based on their annual salary up to $50,000.

Employees have the option to purchase additional short term disability and life insurance.

Work-Life Fit

PAID TIME OFF (PTO): GSS | HWT | KWT recognizes the importance of taking time away from work. PTO is accrued per pay period starting with your date of hire and encompasses vacation, personal, and sick leave.

Hire date through 2nd year of service 14 days
2 through 4 years of service 16 days
5 through 9 years of service 19 days
10 through 14 years of service 22 days
15+ years of service 25 days

HOLIDAYS: Eight paid holidays are recognized each year: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and one (1) floating holiday on a day of your choice.

BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: Employees are eligible for 2 days of paid bereavement leave per year for the loss of a significant person in their life, and up to 2 weeks of paid leave per year for the loss of a spouse or child.

JURY OR WITNESS DUTY: Employees are eligible for up to 3 days per year or the amount regulated by state law where you reside.

FLEXIBLE SCHEDULING: Flexible scheduling is available when you occasionally need to take less than half a day off for events such as doctor’s visits, parent/teacher meetings, or a few hours caring for a sick family member or recuperating yourself.

EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (EAP): Through Cigna, employees have access to confidential professional counseling services for personal issues (e.g. financial crisis, family difficulties). Other programs available through the EAP include travel assistance, identity theft resolution, healthy rewards, life assistance, will preparation/legal consultation, and bereavement counseling services.


COMPENSATION: GSS | HWT | KWT offers competitive wages. We want our team to work hard and be comfortable that they are being compensated well in return. Performance evaluations are given every year, as a time to discuss job performance and knowledge, collaborative efforts with others, and goals for the upcoming year. In addition to receiving meaningful feedback that employees can apply to their work, salary adjustments may result from annual evaluations.

BONUS: Employees are eligible for a discretionary bonus that is typically awarded each year.

401(k) PLAN: GSS | HWT | KWT offers eligible employees the opportunity to participate in the company 401(k) plan. Employees may make an elective deferral up to 100% of compensation in any calendar year that does not exceed the annual dollar amount permitted by law. GSS | HWT | KWT may make a discretionary contribution of 3% of eligible employee's annual salary into the plan each year. GSS | HWT | KWT's contributions are subject to a vesting schedule.

Employees also have 24/7 access to our online resources center, where company and group trainings are available at the click of a mouse, in addition to many other company resources, guides, and information. Additionally, if you need training to do your job or to maintain a professional certification, speak with your supervisor to determine if the cost is eligible to be covered by GSS | HWT | KWT.

CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTIONS: GSS | HWT | KWT recognizes the importance of being a philanthropic leader by supporting charitable non-profit organizations. With the company’s charitable contributions program, GSS | HWT | KWT makes donations to organizations selected by employees. Through this program, we have been able to donate to multiple charities and support various causes.
